Endometriosis campaign update

The Scottish Parliament's Public Petitions Committee have again met to consider the Save our NHS Group's call to increase funding into endometriosis research. The Save our NHS Group has maintained that it is unacceptable that in recent yerars funding has been decreased at a time when medical and scientific thought is promoting early diagnosis and preventative treatment.

Our campaign was given a significant boost recently when Endometriosis UK and three leading Scottish scientific research universities, in providing evidence to the Committee, effectively supported our call for increased funding as a scientific and public health priority.

The Committee have considered the technical points raised by Endometriosis UK and the universities and have decided that the next course of action is to approach the Scottish government directly and ask what it plans to do on this issue.

Andrew Billson-Page, from the Save our NHS Group, said that is was "encouraging" the Committee have referred the issue to the government. "Action is urgently required and overdue" he said. "Academic institutions and charities have supported our campaign and it is vital that the Scottish government acts to end this injustice."
